Outsourcing group Capita has been recruited by the Cabinet Office to oversee the training of civil servants, it has been announced.
Capita will exclusively manage the provision of training to civil servants through an extensive network of training providers. The government’s training agency, Civil Service Learning, has been ordered to save at least £50m per annum in 2012 and 2013.
“The training contract will enable public sector organisations to access quality learning and development services, which provide value for money and support the delivery of excellent public service,” said Capita chief executive Paul Pindar.
Mr Pindar insisted that the tie-up would provide the civil service with more efficient training provision and reduced duplication. He added that training will be provided by a range of small and medium-sized businesses, with “innovative, blended learning solutions” at the heart of the scheme.
Last week, Capita announced it had been appointed as a recommended provider by the Ministry of Defence as it sought to beat competition from Logica and Serco to win a lucrative military recruitment and IT services contract.
